Synchronization for files copied via USB cable.
I copied 6GB of mp3 files in folder via usb cable to phone memory card and set SymSync to synchronize that PC folder  with phone's  folder... but for some reason SymSync starts to overwrite all these files with PC ones, even when they were freshly copied via cable from that same PC... i need SymSync to copy only new files, not all of them... its 6GB so it would take forever over Wi-Fi.

Lets  keep it organized.
If you have a suggestion, then you place it in section for Suggestions.
If you have a problem, then you place it in Troubleshooting section.

... moved from Suggestions to Troubleshooting section.

When you have copied files via USB cable your were using some software, probably from Nokia.
Are you sure that this software is copying files right?
Have you checked date and time for copied files and compared with original files?

It looks like that you do not have correct date and time for these files after copying.
If so, I would suggest to use software that can perform file copy process correctly. For example you may use software from Telexy. Other option is to copy archive file and unpack it on the phone. Hopefully packing/unpacking software will save correct date and time for the files.

Re: Synchronization for files copied via USB cable.
I used mass storage mode and normal windows file explorer.. time stamps are indeed different and i dont understand why...

all files look like this:

Right side phone, left side pc

Funny thing is, that some of them have right (identical {few second difference}) time stamps... but most of them dont...

I know now its not symsync's fault, but it would be cool to have option to disable time check in sync task, so only thing checked will be if file exists or not.

I will try to manually change time stamps on these files, both in PC and in phone.

thank you

To do it for phone files you may use SymNAS Trial version and make it from computer in File Explorer. Probably it could take some time for wireless connection as I guess you have a lot of files for that 6 GB, but it is the easiest way to do it.

Added to suggestions, #29.

Re: Synchronization for files copied via USB cable.
So, i changed time stamps in phone and PC with total commander and symsync still wanted to copy everything.... so i tested it.

I created one folder on pc and one in phone, put few mp3s in PC folder and started sync...
SymSync copyied everything from PC to Phone and it looked fine... but then i started sync again, so it was supposed to do nothing this time, but it started to copy all these mp3s again.... every time sync runs it copyies (or copies? not sure with that one) all those mp3 files again...

Re: Synchronization for files copied via USB cable.
Have you checked date/time stamp on files in this case, is there any differences date/time stamp for files in PC folder and phone folder?
What is the phone model and firmware version?

Re: Synchronization for files copied via USB cable.
Thanks. We may have some suggestion on what is going on in this case, but we need to know some additional details.

Please perform the following tests as described.

Create needed folders on phone exactly as requested below.
Create new shared folder on PC, you may use any location and any name in this case, for example C:\PC-SHARE\

Before start of each test, please delete all files from Source and Destination folders and after that place into Source Folder just one single file.
The file size for file involved in each test, should be big enough to make copy process last minimum 5 to 10 seconds!
Before start of each test, please check and write down current Date and Time on the phone.

First 2 tests are just for regular copying with standard Nokia File Browser/Manager.

Last 4 tests are with SymSync using individual SyncRules created for each test.
For each test with SymSync use Sync Rule with parameter Sync Interval set to Manual.
Use Manual start for Sync Rules during these tests.
For each test with SymSync, perform one Manual Sync process, write down 3 Date/Time results as requested below.
Then repeat Sync process one more time and add result into the last column.

Please copy/paste the following two tables into your reply and fill it up with results.
Using  Courier New font will allow you to align these tables easier.

Program    Source            Destination     Phone DT    SRC file DT   DST file DT
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nokia FB  C:\PHONE-DIR-C     E:\PHONE-DIR-E
Nokia FB  E:\PHONE-DIR-E     C:\PHONE-DIR-C

Program    Source            Destination     Phone DT    SRC file DT   DST file DT    Second Sync started?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SymSync   C:\PHONE-DIR-C\    E:\PHONE-DIR-E\
SymSync   E:\PHONE-DIR-E\    C:\PHONE-DIR-C\

SymSync   FOLDER on PC       C:\PHONE-DIR-C\
SymSync   FOLDER on PC       E:\PHONE-DIR-E\

where:
Nokia FB - standard Nokia File Browser/Manager.
Phone DT - Date and Time on phone immediately before Sync process started.
SRC file DT - Date and Time on file in Source Folder after Sync process finished.
DST file DT - Date and Time on file in Destination Folder after Sync process finished.

I dont know how to acess system memory on phone from PC so there are part of tests missing, but important discovery is that it  repeats sysncing only when i sync
something >> Memory card

That is exactly what was expected and exactly with memory card!
For quite a long time we are aware about problems on a few Nokia phone models that are using cache while working with drive E:
Your situation looks like another illustration for that problem.
Probably same cache is on your N85 phone.

Quite an ironic situation for those who aware Wink

Anyway, lets move on.

1. Be aware that on Nokia phones that are using cache with drive E:,
you may have some unexpected surprises like one described above.
2. Do not use SymSync with Drive E: on your Nokia N85 phone.
3. Probably with time we can add option in SymSync to ignore Time Difference and use file size difference only.
Specially in order to move around of this Nokia's problem.

Re: Synchronization for files copied via USB cable.
Well, integrated memory on n85 is like 100MB, so i really need to use sync with my memory card which is 16GB.

Can i somehow disable that cursed cache?

Or can you patch up some quick fix unofficial  symsync sis file, with time check disabled?

I really, really need to be able use sync with my memory card Tongue Tied

I don't have such phone and I don't have answer for this question. I may suggest for you to contact Nokia with 2 questions:
1) What are Nokia's plans about fixing this problem with cache?
2) Is there any way to disable this cache on the phone with existing firmware version?
Please let us know their answers.

Mike, I am sorry to disappoint you with my answer. I am afraid that right now we cannot afford to do this. It is really simple task, but all our resources at this moment are on other projects and majority of them are not related to Symbian at all.

In mean time, please send an Email to our customer support  with reference to this thread and we will provide for you free SymSync licence for your help with investigation of this situation.

It is not a problem at all, we can handle this as well. Just contact our customer support with reference to this thread and PayPal Transaction ID number for your SymSync purchase.
